Why this fight matters
This isn’t about permits. It’s about people. 
Rozzi and hosts like her aren’t corporations or investment firms. They’re San Diegans trying to stay in the city they call home.
- Punishes locals: Hosts are regular San Diegans: retirees, teachers, and military families, who rely on a rental home to help make ends meet.
- Fewer visitors, fewer jobs: When rentals go offline, the neighborhoods and small businesses around them lose guest spending, often in areas with no hotels at all.
- Doesn’t create housing: Cutting permits or piling on new costs doesn’t add a single home to San Diego’s housing supply.
- Hosts, not corporations: Most short-term rentals in San Diego are a single property run by a local homeowner, not an out-of-state investment firm.
- Funds real city services: Beyond the millions in guest spending at local small businesses, short-term rentals generate over $50 million a year in city tax revenue, helping fund police, fire, parks, and libraries.
- Already tightly regulated, and it’s working: The City adopted strict rules a few years ago that already cut the number of short-term rentals in half through permit limits and caps, plus real accountability requirements.

We support effective solutions
San Diegans need policy that lowers costs, not more of them.
Instead of another rule that hits responsible hosts, City Council should:
- Stop making San Diego more expensive: Stop raising fees and taxes that hit families already stretched thin.
- Deliver real supply solutions: Streamline permits and speed up housing that’s already been planned and approved.
- Focus on accountability first: Measure results, audit existing funds, and prioritize what’s actually effective before adding more rules.
- Target enforcement on bad actors: Enforce the rules and punish those who break them. Don’t punish responsible hosts like Rozzi who are trying to make it in San Diego.
